An Explanation
It will be quite apparent to some that the translation of Halleluyah Scriptures bears a striking similarity to ‘the Scriptures 1993′ published by the Institute for Scripture Research. This is no accident as the translation from ISR forms the basis for the Halleluyah Scriptures.
Before anyone gets upset, pointing to the copyright stamped all over the current edition of “the Scriptures”, please be aware that the ISR has no problem with anyone utilizing the ’93 copyright free translation. In the first place, who has the right to copyright the Word of
? Even the good old KJV, errors and all, never copyrighted the work done by those early translators!
The sad and shocking fact is, that the translation of ‘the Scriptures’ by ISR was NEVER intended to be copyrighted and was, in fact, intended to be given FREE!
A Simplified Parable
There was once a great master painter who spent the whole latter end of his life painting the greatest masterpiece seen by human eyes. His vision was to place this master piece in a public museum for all to see FREE OF CHARGE. On his death bed he entrusted his masterpiece to his closest friend to continue the vision of his life-long work. This trusted friend then took the masterpiece and put it in his private museum, charging people to come and see the masterpiece that he now claimed as his own work.
Question: Should someone who comes and retrieves the masterpiece, re-instituting it in a public museum for all to see free of charge and restoring credit to its original painter be accused of theft? And should the “trusted friend” who claimed it as their own get any credit for the work whatsoever?
A Short History
The translation accomplished by what is now known as ISR was by and large completed by one individual at great personal sacrifice. After learning the true Name of the Almighty, this individual experienced a vision from
, hearing an audible voice, whereupon his life was spared from a near death experience. He vowed to
to spend the rest of his life proclaiming the truth of the Name of
. One of those methods took many years of his life to fulfill and was of course, “the Scriptures”. In accordance with the vision received, the first English edition published in 1993 carried this message in the first pages:
Please note the usage of wording, “This translation…”
It is not the book itself alone that is not to be sold, it is the translation that is free. Nowhere in the first printing will you find any mention of copyright.
A number of years after the first printing, giving “the Scriptures” freely, this gentleman passed away, leaving a sum of money to a trusted friend with the request to not let the vision die…
As many will realize now, this man’s vision has indeed been lost in the belief held by some at ISR that it is impossible to sustain a ministry that gives the Word of
freely. We here at Halleluyah Scriptures believe that NOTHING is impossible with
!
And we intend to restore this vision given of
to make His Word available for free. Of course, nothing material in this world is truly free, and this vision can only be sustained by willing believers putting into practice that kind of love and sharing exercised by the early assemblies as recorded in Acts:
“And the group of those who believed were of one heart and one being. And no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they had all in common.” - Acts 4:32
If you are asking the question, “Why would one not ask the ISR for permission to print at cost or bulk discount?” The fact is, a good number of Messianics have gone to the effort to contact ISR and ask for a bulk discount, only to be refused.
A number have asked to print a quantity at their own expense for free distribution only to be sternly warned that to do so would infringe copyright.
It is our opinion, that to make money on the Word of
, is by definition: profiteering.
“But if a man is righteous and shall do right-ruling and righteousness… if he does not lend on interest or take increase, turns back his hand from unrighteousness, executes right-ruling in truth between man and man, if he walks in My Laws, and he has guarded My Right-Rulings in truth – he is righteous, he shall certainly live!” declares the Master
. - Ezekiel 18:5-9
The word to take note of in this Scripture is “take increase.” The definition underlying the Hebrew word “tarbith” is percentage or bonus in addition to principal. So those who add an additional cost on top of the outlay for printing
‘s Word for His people are in conflict of His Word!
This is echoed from the Torah:
“And when your brother becomes poor, and his hand has failed with you, then you shall sustain him, and he shall live with you, like a stranger or a sojourner. Take no interest from him, or profit, but you shall fear your Elohim, and your brother shall live with you. Do not lend him your silver on interest, and do not lend him your food for profit.” - Leviticus 25:35-37
This information is not intended to run anyone down, but merely explain the vision and the copyright free translation utilized for Halleluyah Scriptures. Halleluyah Scriptures contains no footnotes or doctrinal explanations, a bare minimum of italicized words and has rendered the Name of
in Paleo Hebrew. We praise
for the gentleman who acted on the vision received, and Halleluyah Scriptures is continuing the vision with the purest, most literal English translation available.
